Parish Staff

History

Sacred Heart parish was founded in 1882.

Prior to 1882, all Catholics in and around Springfield attended the “old” Immaculate Conception Church on North Campbell. An unclear source of dissatisfaction on the part of the northern residents of the parish prompted the people to write Bishop John Hogan in Kansas City requesting their own parish, although it was no more than 10 blocks to Immaculate Conception. Parish Council

The consultative body that works with the pastor to define the vision of what the parish is called to be. Develops and implements the pastoral plan. Ten persons are elected to staggered three-year terms and up to five others are appointed by the pastor to one-year terms. Contact the parish office to volunteer. Read more

Event Space Rental

In 2006, Sacred Heart Church completed a $1.2 million renovation of our parish hall, largely in part due to a capital campaign and the generosity of our parishioners and others. Read more

Stained Glass Windows

Sacred Heart of Jesus—Immaculate Heart of Mary—“Blessed be the Most Loving Heart and Sweet Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the most glorious Virgin Mary, His Mother, in eternity and forever. Amen.” Read more

The Church Bell

Our Sacred Heart Church Bell sits in our bell tower supported by an old timber base above the east end of the church. It is only accessible by ladder through a small hatch about 40 feet above the church’s main floor. Read more
