Palm Sunday
Dear Parishioners,
“The good news is, the resurrection happens without us,” said Bishop Rice today at a diocesan staff meeting. We were talking about how fast lent passed us by. What Bishop Rice meant was, even if we didn’t keep all of our Lenten fasts, the resurrection has already happened, and we will still celebrate it again at Easter. God loves us before we love Him and when we don’t love Him well.
Here on Palm Sunday we remember how Jesus was welcomed by the triumphant crowds of Jerusalem who quickly turned on him and called for his crucifixion. He loved them anyway. Most of his disciples abandoned him, he loved them anyway. God throughout history again and again sent prophets to the Jews to tell them the way to Life because he loved them, even though they were sinners. He sent is only Son because he loved all of us in the world.
Even if Lent is ending quickly, let it be a reminder how quickly all of our life is passing. If we failed our Lenten promises, it’s no different than the many times we fail to keep our commitment to Jesus the rest of the year. All the same, as Easter will soon come and we will celebrate how God’s salvation came once and for all through Jesus. And it will last forever.
