Corpus Christi
The last few weeks have been packed with Solemnities (our
highest feasts) from Easter to the Ascension to Pentecost to
today, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. As is the case with
having many celebrations so close, each one doesn’t seem as
special and since we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ
every Sunday it is hard to know what makes this day so
special?
One reason this solemnity of Corpus Christi is so special is
because it is the culmination of all the Solemnities of Jesus
and Pentecost, where we remember Jesus promising to be
with us always. Second, this feast marks the 2nd of our 3 years
of preparing for our National Eucharistic Revival, which will
take place from July 17-21 2024 in Indianapolis, a 3 year
initiative that aims to inspire, educate, and unite. In a world
where not, many people know Jesus intimately. This revival
is meant to show everyone what wonders the True Presence
of Jesus can do to heal the soul and our world.
As part of our church getting ready for the National
Eucharistic Revival, this past year we have added Eucharistic
adoration to our services each week. We hold one every
Friday from 830am until 930am and every Sunday from 5-6
pm with a Spanish rosary during the last 20 minutes. We
invite you to come to one of these times in the coming weeks
to spend a special time with our Lord.
In this coming year toward the end of October, we will be
hosting the Eucharistic miracles’ display to grow in our
understanding of the miracles associated with the Eucharist.
We will also keep you updated on the various events that will
be happening at other churches and through the National
Eucharistic Revival website as well.
Perhaps one way to make this celebration today special
would be to consider becoming a liaison for the English and
Spanish speaking communities for the National Eucharistic
Revival. We are still in need of two individuals to do this
service to the community. This position will only run through
next July with the revival, so I would ask you to pray if God
might be calling you to serve Him in this way and let me know.
Certainly, anyone can go to the National Eucharistic Revival
website and learn of the many resources to help grow in
one’s understanding and love of the Eucharist/Corpus
Christi/Body of Christ.
Homily
Can you tell the difference between this host and this host?
One is consecrated and one is not. That means one is bread
and one is the body of Christ.
And though we celebrate the body of Christ every time we
come to mass; this day is special in another way. It is one of
those moments for us to sit back and not take what we have
for granted. To This year Bishop Rice has
asked us to use this feast to get us ready
for the national Eucharistic Revival.
