From the pastor’s desk—Sept. 12 2021

Fr. Ray Smith, CMF
Parochial administrator

Dear Sacred Heart Family,

As our Sacred Heart family continues to return back to worship in person, it is a good time to also return back to renew ourselves in our Mission Statement which reads:

“Sacred Heart Family is joined together by Christ to celebrate our oneness through common prayer life and is sent forth to teach and serve. Our purpose as a parish is to portray in our lives the teachings of Jesus Christ by giving compassionate and reconciling love to all through our prayer and action.”

IF we were to combine all these elements of prayer, teaching, and service (action) in one word, I believe we would say, as Bishop Rice has said, our mission is evangelization. This mission of evangelization is certainly more prominent for us at this time of year as we begin our PSR (parish school of religion) program.

On behalf of the parish, I would like to take this moment to thank all those who are currently instructors and all those who have been instructors in the past in this crucial ministry. This ministry is the reminder from St Paul that we are called to share what we have received. In sharing what we have received, we truly give thanks to God for the gift of faith.

In a small way we do this every Sunday, as we are sent out at the end of Mass to share the Christ we have received in His Word and in the Eucharist, with the world we will meet in that coming week. True thankfulness is looking to bring Christ to others we meet in the stores, see in our neighborhood, or talk with on the phone and computer.

If you would like to assist us with this ministry, we are looking for substitute instructors and a kindergarten instructor. If you are worried that you might not know enough to be an instructor, substitute, or assistant, Deacon Jim has graciously put together the class presentations needed to make it easier for anyone who would like to help. In reality, the main talent one needs to be a PSR Instructor is a love to pass on our faith to our next generation.

Please keep our PSR instructors and students in your prayers and if you are willing to help us with the next generation of evangelization, please contact Deacon Horacio or Dee in the front office (417) 869-3646, and may the blessing of the Sacred Heart of Jesus be yours.

All for Jesus with Mary,
Fr. Ray
