Welcome to Sacred Heart’s Web Site. Our parish is located in the Midtown Neighborhood of the north end of Springfield, Missouri. Bishop John Hogan established the parish in 1882 but the church is actually the second built on the site because a tornado destroyed the first in 1883.
Although Catholics in Springfield are registered in any of the six city parishes, many families can trace their roots to Sacred Heart. Presently we have 349 households and about half of our families are Hispanic. Given the bilingual nature of our membership, we have two English and two Spanish masses each weekend.
Compared to parishes in larger cities, Sacred Heart may appear small in stature but we’re big in heart! We offer many programs and activities for everyone. In our Parish School of Religion (PSR), we have 106 young people enrolled. RCIA is another vibrant program helping to form people in our faith. Students from Missouri State University and Drury University participate in our ESOL programs helping both children and adults to acquire fluency in English. Whether it be the Wednesday Senior Breakfast days, the Hispanic Committee’s celebrations, or the Saint Vincent DePaul members, there’s always some way for everyone to get involved. Be sure to check out the “Events & Celebrations” link as well as the “Committees” link.
In Deuteronomy 7:7 we read, “The LORD set his heart on you and chose you.” The parish of Sacred Heart wants to be the Heart of Christ in this part of God’s creation. All are welcomed! All are welcomed! We are, and will continue to be, a home for all whom the Spirit has led here.
God Bless,
Fr. Tom McGann CMF
